STOP THE SILLY "NO FAT" & "LOW FAT" INSANITY! You need fat! You just have to consider quantity & quality. Naturally occurring, unprocessed fats are a great fuel source & are VITAL to good health. No/low fat products have been altered & become problematic to your health. They're junk!
#1 source of vitamin D: fermented cod liver oil. Other great sources are pasture raised (grass-fed) dairy products(butter, cream, cheese), beef, lamb, buffalo, chickens & their eggs, wild-caught fish, sardines & most other non-farmed or naturally harvested wild game.
"I'll just get my Vit. D from the sun!" Unless you live near the equator & spend about an hour a day, NAKED, AT NOON in the sun...it ain't happenin'! Getting some sun is a good idea, but you've got to get dietary sources of D, or you're going to come up short.
FRUIT & VEGGIES ARE GREAT, BUT THEY DONT HAVE ANY VITAMIN D! Vit. D has to be consumed because your body doesn't synthesize it very well. Besides the hormonal problems we discussed yesterday, deficiency is also closely tied to osteoporosis. You've got to eat the right stuff to have healthy levels. Continued Thursday....
VITAMIN D IS A STEROID HORMONE! That's a good thing, too. Your body needs it badly & does not synthesize it well on its own. Problems with hormone imbalance like depression, irritability, PMS, menopause, etc. are a few of the things on the long list of issues helped by adequate amounts. We'll talk more about Vit. D this week!
